David Shannon Memorial Leadership Fund
The David Shannon Memorial Leadership Fund has been established at the Law Foundation of Silicon Valley to honor the memory of David Shannon, longtime leader and champion of justice. David’s deep commitment to the Law Foundation and its ability to advance justice has had a tremendous impact on the Silicon Valley community.
Funds raised will pay for top leaders within the organization whose work has the greatest real-world impact on improving the lives of those denied access to justice. Just as David was an extraordinary leader at NVIDIA and at the Law Foundation as President and during his 11 years of service on our Board of Directors, from 2003-2014, this fund will support and inspire similar, exceptional leadership. David was dedicated to the idea that everyone deserves equal access to justice – foster youth, seniors, homeless individuals, children with special needs, families, people with disabilities, and more.
Funding will support our senior leaders in having greater ability to set vision and strategy and, ultimately, execute on a wide variety of advocacy on behalf of the types of underserved clients for whom the Law Foundation aims to give voice and for whom David was most committed, including:
Children and youth experiencing the negative effects of abuse or neglect, being victims of human trafficking or foster youth identity theft, navigating the immigration system as an unaccompanied immigrant minor, or being denied appropriate educational services or subjected to unfair school discipline as a child with special needs
Families facing displacement from our community or homelessness due to unlawful evictions, living in substandard living conditions, or being subjected to housing discrimination
Low-income individuals, like veterans and seniors, living with chronic health conditions and mental health disabilities needing assistance with access to medical treatment and benefits.
